Preliminary Project

For our first project, the objective was to create a short visual story using specific camera shots, compositions, and angles to show an idea and set the tone. We had to treat one or two inanimate objects like “characters” and use 15 different shots to tell the story. Some of the required shots included an establishing shot, a long shot, two medium shots, two close-ups, an extreme close-up, a point of view shot, a high-angle shot, and a low-angle shot. We also had to use the rule of thirds in one shot.

To prepare, I made a shot list where I planned each picture in order before taking any photos. This helped me stay organized and make sure I didn’t miss any required shots. I chose a water bottle and a pencil as my protagonists. Then I thought of simple actions or situations that could tell a small story, like the water bottle and pencil clashing together. I focused on how each angle or distance could show a different feeling.

I think I did well in making sure I included all the required shot types and followed the directions. My strongest shots were the close-ups and the point of view because they really showed detail and perspective. If I were to improve, I would spend more time thinking about how to make my story flow more smoothly between shots so it feels like a complete narrative rather than just individual photos.
